5. What is Swasth India Medical Center, and what does it do?

Swasth India Medical Centers (SIMC) are a part of the Swasth foundation Ecosystem. They are a network of medical centers providing no frills, no cost care for low-income populations in Mumbai to mitigate the impact of chronic diseases (e.g., cardiovascular disease, diabetes). These diseases account for ~40% of mortalities in Mumbai and low-income communities are at high-risk due to lack of diagnostics and timely medical intervention.

6. What are the key healthcare services provided by Swasth India Medical Centers?

SIMCs provide community education, pathology lab tests, doctor consultations and medication. The goal is to eliminate cost as a consideration and create a one-stop solution for ease of access.

7. Where are your medical centers located, and how many people do you serve?

SIMCs serve a total of ~10,000 patients annually and are located in low-income communities in Mumbai.

8. What makes Swasth India Medical Centers different from other healthcare initiatives?

SIMCs provide services at no cost to patients including pathology labs and medication. Our costs are far lower than private doctors and government medical centers typically prioritize diseases like malaria, dengue, etc. and suffer from a chronic staff vacancy rate of 20%+.

9. Who are the primary beneficiaries of your services?

Swasth India Medical Centers (SIMC) are a network of medical centers providing no frills, no cost care for low-income populations in Mumbai to mitigate the impact of chronic diseases (e.g., cardiovascular disease, diabetes).

10. How can I donate to Swasth India Medical Center?

We encourage donations through our website. If you would prefer to, we also accept donations via bank transfer in the US and India.

11. Can I set up a recurring donation?

Yes, recurring donations are highly appreciated as they help us better forecast and plan our budget. You can choose the option to make a recurring donation on the donations page.

12. Are there different ways to contribute, such as in-kind donations or corporate sponsorships?

If you would like to make in-kind donations, please contact us. Corporate sponsorships are also welcome including the option to cover the costs of one or more locations for a pre-determined period of time. If you would like to discuss these options, please contact us.

13. How does Swasth India ensure transparency in fund utilization?

We publish our audited financial statements annually. Our overhead costs (technology, administrative, payroll, etc.) are <8% of our total operating budget. In other words, 90%+ of your donation is directly utilized to cover the services and medication we provide.

14. How are donations used to improve healthcare access?

On an ongoing basis we conduct community outreach and education in the communities we serve. Lack of information is a big factor in the spread of chronic disease in low-income communities. In addition, during these outreach efforts we offer free pathology lab tests so community members can be tested for their individual risk of chronic disease. All these services are covered by the donations we receive.

15. What kind of impact has Swasth India had so far?

Since inception, we have completed more than 1.5 million patient visits. We serve 10,000 patients a year with approimately 200 new patient registrations every month. We have enabled patients save more than XXX in medical costs. Most importantly, the health outcomes for the patients we serve is demonstrably better than averages seen in India.

16. How do you measure the success of your programs?

Our primary success metric is improving health outcomes for patients. We regularly monitor the number of patients whose parameters are improving and are within the control.

17. Can I receive reports or updates on how my donation is being used?

Yes! Please sign up for our newsletter which provides ongoing updates on the work we are doing including key statistics on patients served, health outcomes, etc.

18. Are there case studies or success stories available?

Need to think through this

23. What is Swasth India’s long-term vision for healthcare in India?

Chronic disease is a growing problem across India. Our focus is on Mumbai to maximize our operational efficiency. We are actively working on incorporating traditional modalities (e.g., yoga-based practices) to enable patients to be more self-sufficient in their healthcare. We do not currently intend to expand beyond Mumbai but would gladly support organizations who intend to serve low-income communities in other parts of India.

24. How do you ensure financial sustainability for your programs?

As a non-profit, we pay continuous and careful attention to our budget and funding. We continue to actively fundraise as all of our work is supported by the generosity of donors. In parallel, we are constantly improving our cost structure – for example, we have built backward integration for our medicine supply chain to source directly from pharmaceutical manufacturers to lower costs.

25. Do you invest in medical technology or innovation?

We continue to invest in technology that enables us to support our patients better. We are also actively working on incorporating new modalities into our programs to enable greater self-reliance and progressively reduce the medication that patients require.
